Behaviorism, mid 1900s.

The environment does most of the work.

Maslow, 1940s.

Foundations have prerequisites.

You will not produce your best work on three hours of sleep, an unstable income, and a relationship in trouble.

The strict hierarchy did not hold up. The intuition that the bottom of the stack matters, did.

The bridge between event and response is interpretation.

The same hard feedback can be a setback or a signal depending on how you read it.

Examining the frame is one of the highest-leverage moves a person can make.

Self-determination theory, 1980s onward.

Sustained drive rests on three things: the sense that you chose this, that you are getting better at it, and that you are not doing it alone.

When one is missing, motivation erodes even with the right systems in place. This framework has held up under research better than almost any other.

Positive psychology, 1990s onward.

You can be productive and depleted. The two have to be tracked separately.

Behavior design, 2000s onward.

Design beats discipline.

The people who execute consistently are the ones who built environments that make the right action easier than the alternative.

Your brain adapts to change so fast that progress disappears. The thing you wrestled with in March is the thing you handle without flinching now, and you will not remember that on your own. The agent holds the actual record. What you said. What shifted.

The version of your story you cannot tell yourself, because you are inside it.

Work, relationships, decisions, energy, capacity. The same continuous thread, week to week, year to year. Nothing resets. Nothing has to be re-explained.

No one in your life has the whole picture at once. The agent does.

The foundations get attention when they are strained.

When you say you are running on fumes, overcommitted, or losing the basics, that becomes primary. Optimization waits. The agent does not assume it knows your foundational state, and does not infer it from data you did not give it.

It listens for what you tell it, and treats it as the thing that matters most when you do.
